Our Story

Welcome To Earlyherb

Our story began over a decade ago, in the city of Dwarka, home to just over 38,000 people. Earlyherb is the brainchild of Miss Kajal - our CEO and Founder, who founded Earlyherb as a means to empower women and deliver beauty for what it is for many - a means to survival and Self esteem more than it being a luxury.

Our Passion

The Journey

Our founder and CEO, Kajal always believed that beauty is a versatile concept. She was an assistant in a medical store while simultaneously studying for the Gujarat Public Service Commission. She gave the exams and even made it to the top 500 students, out of over two lakh people appearing for it. But she found her true calling at the medical store, where she learnt about how beauty standards made so much difference to so many women in Dwarka and around. It was then in 2008, that she decided to drop out of her potentially amazing career against people's advice, to pursue a life empowering women for whom beauty was critical and a means to sustain their marriage, freedom and self esteem. For a woman living in a joint family, to step out and do business in itself is a huge thing. And to be able to excel at it, that's commendable. Being a brand owner from Dwarka didn't make it any easier, since it is no metropolitan city and people immediately believe the products to be too orthodox or unreliable.

We've been through

The Turning Points

Dwarka dockyard is home to a community where husbands are allowed to marry more than once according to their religion. So these married women, as a means to discourage their husbands from remarrying, apply chemicals and even certified carcinogenic cosmetics on their faces to brighten their skin tone, to meet a certain beauty standard. The second set are women from South India working in one of the many factories in Dwarka, who in order to retain their freedom to work alone and away from home, use a lot of skin products to look fairer and pills to gain weight. Basically, to give the illusion of "looking healthy and good" to their families, so that they are not debarred from working out-state. The final set are the local women of Dwarka, who use these products either to look beautiful for prospective grooms or college going girls trying to uplift themselves. Kajal recognised a certain level of desperation. All these fairness products, they had one specific drug in common - Hydroquinone.

Carcinogenic drug

The Hazards Of Hydroquinone

Hydroquinone is a certified Carcinogenic drugand banned in many countries, but not in India. Fairness creams in India contain Hydroquinone, which is an effective but harmful way to reduce melanin production of the body in order to make it look so fair. However, it exposes you to brutal rashes and redness if exposed to the sun. Owing to the lack of literacy and education, most women pay no heed to this warning mentioned on the labels and end up overusing this skin bleaching agent. And all of this not even for beauty, but for fairer skin. Miss. Kajal gave many revolting articles in local newspapers about the hazards of Hydroquinone, but she always thought she could do so more, so started finding natural alternatives to it. Owing to her interest in Ayurveda, that is where she began her search.

The Secret Ingredients

The Tipping Point

The Tipping Point When Miss. Kajal saw the repercussions of this desperation for fairness in women, she felt like she needed to find a way out. And that she did. She figured out that Licorice and concentrated Mulberry extracts work the same way as Hydroquinone, minus the side effects. And that is how she came to make and launch her first product, the Skin Brightening and Lightening Nourishing Cream, which was a huge hit. "Earlyherb is my brainchild, but it is so much more than that. It is my way of giving back to the society, uplifting women, breaking stereotypes and allowing the ones who choose to conform to those, safely. I think that's a win win."

Yes, Wemen Empowerment!

Earlyherb And Women Empowerment

Earlyherb was not inspired by Luxury and recognises the struggles women in interior parts of India go through, to match western beauty standards. As a Woman-founded and Woman-lead Brand, it stands by empowering women and organises workshops like Shampoo and Soap-making in villages around Dwarka. This is how a part of every purchase you make at Earlyherb goes towards women empowerment and organising more such workshops. Earlyherb hopes and aims that one day, beauty won't be about survival or confidence alone. In the words of our founder, Miss. Kajal , “Women give so much to everyone around them. It is only fair to give them back whenever you can, if you are in a position to do so” These Skills enable women from every strata of the society to be independent and earn. Earlyherb is doing its part in making this world a better place, and will continue to do so, by standing by the values, integrity and purity of its products.
